Breathe...tension tightens the throat!

Isn't it funny how singing in the shower can sound so nice and feel so pleasant, yet the idea of singing in front of thousands of people can be agonizing? The bathroom typically has great reverb, by the way, but besides that, the shower moistens the vocal chords and the privacy relaxes them! If only stages could have private showers installed... There have been so many times that I have sang at home, alone, even sans shower, and loved the way I sounded, only to tense up on performance night; the audience sadly unaware of any better version of the melody my voice once produced. They only see and hear the stage fright versions. Sometimes, I'm feeling relaxed and do better on stage - when I've practiced daily, typically. That requires uninterrupted time...what?! My three children are calling, each telling me the scream fest is the others' fault; interruptions are the norm now. Alas, someday, peaceful rehearsal will revisit my schedule.
